Garage or Loft Conversions

Who can have a loft conversion

Loft Conversions

By converting your loft into a daylight filled area in which you can relax, you can add some serious value to your home. This is also a great way to add more space for your family, to avoid needing to move home – it’s a win win solution. Without a doubt, extending is a less stressful, more cost effective solution than moving home.  Invariably, our loft spaces are used to dump rarely used possessions, such as the Christmas tree! With adequate storage incorporated in to your design, you can achieve your dream living space, whilst still allowing for that important storage space.

Within your loft, there could be scope to add one or two extra bedrooms, a bathroom and even an office space. 2EEZ Renovation and Design would love to help you release your home’s potential and help give you a happier home life!

We have completed numerous designs for clients all over the South East of England and Croydon, in Crystal Palace, Thornton Heath, Addiscombe, Mitcham, Beckingham, Carshalton and other areas. Ask to see some examples of our previous work, we’d be delighted to show you!

Design considerations for converting your loft

Common design considerations to think about are:

  • Ceiling height

  • Access

  • Services

  • Lighting issues

  • Planning permission

  • Building regulations – floor strength and fire exits

During your initial consultation, we will be able to establish whether or not a loft conversion is possible.

Not all lofts are suitable for a loft conversion

When we visit your home, we will be able to check the following:

  • Structure of your roof — is yours a traditional cut rafter and purlin roof or a trussed roof?

  • Height — is there enough height to convert your loft? Note the minimum height for a traditional roof is 2.2 to 2.4 meters and the minimum height for a modern trussed roof is 2.4 to 2.6 meters.

  • Space — is the loft space a big enough size to provide the required room/s?

  • Chimneys or services

  • Felt — does your roof have felt under the tiles or is fully weather tight? Most modern houses will have felt.

Do not despair if any of these areas highlights a problem. This doesn’t necessarily mean you cannot convert your loft. There is always an answer and we can help you find it. Often, where we find a client’s property will not accommodate a loft conversion we easily find another solution such as: a garage conversion or extension.
